We share contents from the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course, and practices for students from the Mindfulness in Schools Project. We will learn experientially about presence and emotional intelligence through meditations, mindful movement and more.

Becoming more aware of one’s emotional states has many positive benefits for Teachers and Students alike, and Mindfulness is key to this process. To be Mindful means to become aware of your moment to moment experience, with a kindly curiosity. Often in moments of stress, high emotion, pain or when we have a busy mind we can turn against ourselves- not wanting our experience, which in turn creates more stress. The aim is to introduce teachers to mindfulness and mindfulness practices, to help them to be able to self-regulate when dealing with stress, worry, difficult emotions and over-active minds.

MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) is seen as the “gold-standard” in meditation courses and with over 30 years-worth of scientific research that consistently shows how mindfulness practices can enhance our physical and mental well-being. It can improve concentration, attention, creativity, clarity of mind, working memory, emotional intelligence, mental stamina, sleep, immune functioning, relationships and life satisfaction; and it can reduce stress, depression, anxiety, distress, pain, ruminating, tension.

Mindfulness in School Project’s programme was created using MBSR as a basis, but adapted to be suitable for the classroom experience, and to the age of the students. More information at:
